US CMA Course: Prometric Registration in 2023 | Uplift Professionals

The US CMA course or certification is offered by IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) of USA, which is the worldwide association of accountants and financial professionals in business. It was founded in 1919, having 90,000+ members and global reach of 140 countries through 300 professional and student chapters.

US CMA Course-Prometric Registration in 2022-Uplift Professionals

CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification has been the global benchmark for management accountants and financial professionals. You can now get a professional certification from the USA within 12 – 18 months.

The CMA certification is well recognized by all the MNCs, Big 4 audit firms, US Banks, Consulting firms and other BFSI companies having offices in India. This certification from IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) is considered to be on par with the Indian CMA by most employers.

CMA certified professionals are observed to get a career and earnings premium.  In the US, median total compensation is 28% higher for CMAs over non certified peers. Globally, it’s 50% higher.

If you’re planning for your US CMA course credential, you should know the CMA exam dates, schedule, and deadlines. Plus, it’s essential to understand how to register and manage your time.

1. Steps to become a US CMA

1.     Foundational knowledge of economics, basic statistics, and financial accounting

2.     Pass both CMA exam parts

3.     Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

4.     Any major, no course distribution requirements

5.     Most CMA candidates hold a degree in accounting or finance

6.     May be earned within 7 years of passing US CMA exam parts

7.     Two years of professional work experience

8.     May be fulfilled within 7 years of passing CMA exam parts

9.     Active membership in IMA

2. Requirements to maintain US CMA certification

1.     30 hours of CPE annually

2.     CPE must include 2 hours of ethics training

3.     Maintain active IMA membership

3. Which CMA part one should take first?

It is to be noted, you do not have to take the US CMA course exam parts 1 and 2 in order. It’s completely up to you. For example, you can choose to take Part 2 first, if you want. So, how do you decide? The first step is to know what content each part contains. If one part seems significantly easier for you, then you can choose to tackle that one first. There really isn’t a right or wrong way, since in the end, you need to complete and pass both parts to get your certification.

4. The IMA breaks it down like this:

Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics

15% External Financial Reporting Decisions

20% Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting

20% Performance Management

15% Cost Management

15% Internal Controls

15% Technology and Analytics

Many candidates find Part 1 to be more difficult since it covers more topics and a wider array of subject matter. You can read more about CMA Exam Part 2 difficulty compared to Part 1 if you want to learn more.

In general, Part 2 has fewer subjects and units, so many people do consider it easier. Personally, I was more frustrated with Part 2. It seems easier when you look at it, but the questions were not as straightforward as Part 1.

Part 2: Strategic Financial Management

20% Financial Statement Analysis

20% Corporate Finance

25% Decision Analysis

10% Risk Management

10% Investment Decisions

15% Professional Ethics

You will have an average of 12-18 months to complete each part, with 3 years to complete both. Many people sit for the exams in order, taking Part 1 first since it seems the most logical.

However, some people think Part 2 will be easier for them, so they register to take it first and get it out of the way. The choice is yours. If you want to review the material a bit more and then make a decision, that is one option.

1. Each exam part is four hours in length

2. 100 multiple choice questions, followed by two 30-minute essay scenarios

3. Exam administered at Prometric testing facilities across India.

5. Overview of 2022 US CMA exam dates

You need to understand the US CMA course exam schedule to register for your exam dates. Maybe you’ve been studying for weeks (or even months), and you finally feel confident enough to book your CPA exam date in 2022. However, it’s not possible to take the exam whenever you wish.

First, you must schedule your CMA exam within one of the testing windows. The good news is that we already know the CMA exam dates for 2022, so you have plenty of time to prepare. Furthermore, understanding the timeframe for the testing windows is essential to your CMA exam schedule.

The IMA currently offers three testing windows each year for the CMA accounting exam dates, as follows:
CMA Testing Window First Exam Date Last Exam Date Last Date to Register
January/February Jan. 1, 2022 Feb. 28, 2022 Feb. 15, 2022
May/June May 1, 2022 June 30, 2022 June 15, 2022
September/October Sept. 1, 2022 Oct. 31, 2022 Oct. 15, 2022

Additionally, the dates are the same for each section of the two-part exam. Therefore, the CMA exam part 2 dates are identical to the part 1 dates. If you miss your testing window, you’ll have more hassles than just needing to reschedule. After all, it could throw your study plan off by months. Missing a testing window isn’t the end of the world, but it’s always better to avoid it when possible. Since the testing windows are always the same, you can avoid this problem by being proactive about your planning.

6. Scheduling the Exam with Prometric Centre

Upon selecting the appropriate test window, next comes the booking of your exam slot. Prometric offers convenient, online, anywhere, anytime scheduling and registration with global contact center support. Using the Prometric website, test takers can quickly, easily and conveniently register or schedule an exam online anytime they wish.

Online test scheduling allows test takers to search for the exam they want to take, locate a test center near them, select a time and date to test and book the exam, all from the Prometric website. You will schedule your test with Prometric.

However, you can either take the CMA at a Prometric test center near you, or you can choose online remote proctoring from your own computer at home. If you choose to take it in-person, plan carefully, since planning potential travel arrangements is also essential when you schedule a test. You can also use the same Prometric dashboard to reschedule or cancel your test and to confirm your test once you have scheduled it.

Next, in order to reserve a space at the Prometric exam site or to reserve a remote proctored time slot, you will need an authorization number. It is advised that you send in your registration around 6 weeks before the intended date of your exam to ensure everything is processed on time. Keep in mind that many people are trying to register, and spots may be limited, especially at more popular testing centers.

Finally, remember that you must be an IMA member before you register for the exam.

Now that you know the IMA CMA exam dates, let’s look at some tips for scheduling your appointment.

7. Tips related to scheduling of US CMA Exam

If possible, schedule your exam in the first month of a testing window (i.e., Jan, May, Sep). This gives you more time in case you need to reschedule. This could save you money in the long run, where rescheduling fees are involved.

Candidates are allowed to reschedule their exams for free within the same testing window as long as their test date is still 30 days away. For example, if you run out of studying time, you can still postpone your January exam to February. If you schedule the exam in February, you can’t extend it to May, and instead must pay in full for your next exam. Of course, no one likes to think they will need to reschedule their exam, but you never know what will happen. Putting yourself in the position of having the free rescheduling time is a smart move, just in case.

Top US CMA Exam tips – the preparation strategy [ 2021 Update] :- The most important part is the study/preparation in a guided manner having a proper schedule. 8. Other Important CMA Exam Dates IMA

In addition to knowing the exam windows, you should be aware of a few other restrictions for scheduling your US CMA course exam.

1. All exam appointments must be made with Prometric at least 72 hours before your exam date.

2. If you need to cancel an exam appointment, you must do so at least 72 hours before your date, according to Prometric’s policies.

3. Exam appointments must be scheduled within the same testing window. For example, if your original appointment was in the January/February window, you can’t reschedule for the May/June window.

9. Time Management

It is of utmost importance to understand your “CMA clock.” You have to complete all steps of the certification process within a certain timeline. Please note that the countdown on your CMA exam clock starts the day you pay the CMA entrance fee. On this date, you’re officially “in” and your work to become a CMA begins. Specifically, you must register for the exam within 12 months of entering the CMA program and pass both parts of the CMA exam within 3 years. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of your window and not to allow these dates to pass you by.

If you run down your CMA exam clock, you must start all over again by re-paying the entrance fee. To manage and track your CMA exam clock, most people keep a CMA calendar. You can also work this CMA exam calendar into your study program to help you stay on track.

10. Example of US CMA Exam Scheduler- At a Glance

Let’s take January 1 ,2022 as the day of commencement and to wrap up the whole thing within 6 months.

1. Apply for IMA membership and pay the entrance fee – January 2022

2. Pick a CMA review course and start studying – January 2022

3. Pick your CMA test exam dates and register for the CMA exam – around mid-March 2022

4. Sit for the exam (Part 1) – May 2022

5. Sit for the exam (Part 2) – June 2022

6. Pass the 2 parts and get your CMA certification.

You can make your personalized roadmap to US CMA based on the above example accordingly.

11. US CMA Exam Score Release Date 2022

Your CMA exam result date is based on a formula depending on your test window. They say the waiting is truly the hardest part. And while this may be true, you can do some value-added things while you wait.

Results come 6 weeks from the last day of the month you took the test, plus or minus a day.

Example:

1. If you take the exam on January 30, you will know the date sometime in the middle of March.

2. If you take the exam a few weeks earlier on January 2, your CMA exam result is released the same day as the above. Why? Well, you’ll wait 6 weeks after the end of the month you tested.

So, in this example, if you choose any CMA January 2022 exam date, you won’t get your results until March. The results will be updated online in your IMA profile almost immediately from this date. Furthermore, Prometric will email you a performance report about 14 days after your exam.

12. Stats from IMA regarding US CMA

1. The CMA has a 45% pass rate globally

2. 5,000 CMAs granted each year on average

3. 100,000 CMAs awarded to date

13. IMA: Important Updates for IMA Members and CMA candidates

A. Testing Center Update

Updated on April 27, 2022

As we continue to monitor the global COVID-19 pandemic, our top priority remains the health and safety of all CMA candidates and our staff. Given the current outlook, please note the following schedule and process changes:

B. Prometric testing centers are open

Most Prometric testing centers around the world are open, many at full capacity. Review the complete list of open Prometric testing centers. Note: This list is subject to change.

C. Update to mask/exposure policy:

In light of recent trends and mask mandate changes around the world, along with updated guidance from leading world health organizations, effective May 1, Prometric will not require masks to be worn in testing centers. Prometric, however, will continue to allow and encourage the wearing of masks regardless of mandate or vaccination status. Please note: If masks are mandated in a specific market by local government and/or health officials, then Prometric will follow that guidance in testing centers as well.

In addition, regarding COVID-19 exposure, if a candidate has tested positive for COVID-19 or reports exposure to someone who has COVID-19, Prometric asks that they wait five days and are symptom free prior to testing.

D. Proof of vaccination

In an effort to comply with regional and local/government guidance and mandates, some Prometric testing centers are now requiring candidates to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination at check-in.

Prometric maintains a list of test sites globally that require proof of vaccination in order to test. Candidates testing at these identified sites should be prepared to present the documentation provided to them by their healthcare provider at the time of vaccination. Prometric will update this list on a regular basis.

Candidates should check for additional details by visiting Prometric’s COVID update page.

Have more questions regarding testing sites and COVID-19? Go to the Prometric FAQ page now.

14. What to expect on test day?

This video will provide you with a detailed overview of what to expect during your visit to a Prometric test center.

A. Prometric has resumed biometric procedures

Prometric has reinstated its biometric procedures, specifically fingerprint and ID scans. Out of an abundance of caution, all test takers will be required to use hand sanitizer before using any fingerprint scanners, and Prometric staff will wipe down devices with cleaner after each use to help reduce any risk of transmission. Prometric test center staff are trained on how to assist test takers in using fingerprint and ID scans from an appropriate distance. More information about these policies can be found on the enhanced test center procedures page on Prometric’s website.

B.Remote Testing Option

CMA candidates now have the option of taking their exams either in-person at a Prometric test center or remotely using Prometric’s ProProctor™ service. Certain technology and space requirements apply. Please see the Remote Testing webpage for complete details.

C. Education Transcript Submission

Change to submission process for education transcripts

CMA candidates must submit all required educational transcripts to ICMA electronically on a temporary basis. Please email all documents in PDF format and make sure to include your IMA membership number. Send to:

1.For candidates in China: cmarenzheng@imanet.org.cn

2. For all other regions: CMAEducationDocuments@imanet.org

If you have already submitted your educational documents by mail, please resubmit a scanned copy of your documents to the above email address. To register to take the CMA exam, please visit the exam registration page.

5. Concerned about US CMA Fees/Costs?

The US CMA salary totally compensates for exam fees and the amount of money you’ll spend on the certification.

Meanwhile, earning US CMA requires a significant financial investment. Therefore, you should consider the exams fees in advance so you can budget properly. To do that, let’s analyze the fees you must pay to become a CMA.

5.1 US CMA Fees

Becoming a CMA is a potential pathway to a great new career or an opportunity to move up in your existing career.

People who work in the accounting profession and get their certification will automatically earn more than those who do not. While it does require a monetary and time investment, this investment definitely pays for itself. That said, most people still want to know what kind of fees they are looking at before they begin.

1. IMA Membership Fee

To register for the exam, you must have a membership with the IMA. Membership requires an annual fee and once you earn the CMA designation, you must continue to pay the IMA membership fee to keep your certification active.

The price of an IMA membership varies depending on your professional status. For example, if you’re already a working professional, choose Professional Membership. Full-time faculty members at accredited institutions would qualify for Academic Memberships, too.

However, individuals enrolled in 6 or more credit hours of classes at a college or university should choose to become Student Members.

Select the membership type which is most relevant to you. The membership you choose will determine the pricing. Thankfully, these costs are not all that high in comparison to other accounting membership fees.

Professional Membership option is the most expensive, while students get a reduced rate.

2. US CMA Entrance Fee

After paying your membership fee, you are required to pay an entrance fee. The IMA membership does not include entrance into the program, which is the route to becoming a CMA in the US. By paying the entrance fee, you’ll become eligible to pursue a US CMA certification.

Unlike the IMA membership fee, the entrance fee is a one-time cost. You will pay when you’re ready to become US CMA certified. The entrance fee depends on your membership type, though.

While the entrance fee is required, it also provides you with benefits beyond entrance into the US CMA program. In short, you’re not just paying a fee for the sake of paying a fee.

2.1 Entrance fee covers the following features and services:

A. A credential review for the educational qualification.

B. A credential review for the experience qualification, too.

C. Six months of access to the Exam Support package, which includes printable practice questions.

D. A final score reports.

E. Performance feedback reports for candidates who do not pass.

F. Personalized number certificate for office display, once you get US CMA certification.

G. Congratulatory notification to your employer or others.

3. Examination Fee

There are fees for taking the US CMA exam itself, as there are with other accounting exams and certifications. Fee is paid in order to sit for the exam.

Once you pay the exam fee, you’ll be able to register and reserve your spot. Also, you must pay the examination fee for each part of the exam you take.

The exam has 2 parts. So examination fee is paid at least twice. If you fail an exam part, you must pay this fee to take the exam again. Because of this people try to pass on the first attempt. The examination fee is the same for both exam parts. The fee also varies per membership type.

4. US CMA Fees Summary

Clearly, being a student or Academic member allows you to take the least expensive path to become a CMA. Besides, if you are a professional accountant, you are most likely making more money than a student. So, it’s easier for your salary to offset these costs. When you look at it this way, you can see that it is just another investment into the career path you choose. There are costs involved in every profession, but getting certified as a CMA will help you make more money now and in the future.

Note:

1. The student discount is for current students only (defined as those who have taken at least 6 credit hours of courses in the past semester). Graduated students do not qualify.

2. There is an extra one-time $15 application fee for first-time registration.

After you pay the IMA’s CMA fees, you’ll need to account for a few other expenses in order to pass the CMA Review Courses

So, your exam preparation options include anything from free secondhand notes to coaching classes or self-study review courses. It is quite evident that we are yet to break the shackles of covid pandemic across the globe which is still a matter of concern to go physically to a prometric centre to write your forthcoming US CMA exam. In addition, many of the prometric centres are still closed. Evaluating the crisis, ICMA has emerged with a remote testing option initiative which have a major beneficial impact on the flexibility of US CMA exam takers.

How To Apply For Remote Testing for US CMA Exam -Remote Testing through Prometric’s ProProctor System

Let’s get you through all the modern advancements IMA has brought for the US CMA aspirants. Apart from the in person testing, in the Jan/Feb 2022 exam widow period, ICMA has come out with a new remote testing option through Prometric’s ProProctorTM services starting on January 18, 2022. ProProctor gives you greater flexibility to choose where to test, when to test, and how to test. It is a reliable, convenient – yet secure – testing experience.

What is Remote Proctoring?

Instead of going to a computer testing center, Prometric offers the opportunity to take your US CMA exam from your home or other quiet workspace using their ProProctor software. You will take your exam under the supervision of a live proctor via a video link.

Remote proctoring is an exam delivery method that allows candidates to take the US CMA exam from home or a location of their choice, rather than at a Prometric test centre. Prometric, will administer the exam to candidates through the ProProctor remote assessment platform versus testing at a Prometric test centre.

The security process and candidate check-in procedures are comparable to the test center. Prometric live Proctors monitor the candidate test session through audio and video throughout the exam.

The Technology and Area Requirements

Prometric, the ICMA’s testing companion, works with the ProProctorTM remote testing device to give exams using remote proctoring. It is feasible to take the US CMA exam in the English language US CMA exam at a spot outside of the Prometric Test Centre by borrowing remote proctoring. If you are in a region that is competent for this service and your test location and equipment meet Prometric’s criteria, it is apparent to take this test.

The Difference between taking the exam at Home/ Office and taking it a Prometric test centre

The Prometric test centre is like a “Brick & Mortar” location, a physical location responsible for a compatible testing environment. In contrast, the remote proctor testing security procedures match the level of scrutiny you will experience at a Prometric test centre, and the exam interface is the same. However, while the test centre is responsible for a compatible testing environment, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure a distraction-free environment when taking the exam at home/office.

How to Sign up for Live Remote Proctoring?

If you are interested in live remote proctoring, you can follow the directions found in your Scheduling Authorization or go to your exam’s Prometric webpage and choose the “Schedule” link under “Remotely Proctored Exam.” It is recommended that candidates interested in remote proctoring first read all of the information provided by Prometric to ensure a smooth testing experience.

Exam workspace look

1. Your room/work area must be indoors, well lit, free from background noise and disruptions.

2.Your work area must be free of pens, paper, electronic devices, etc. There should be no content that could potentially provide an unfair advantage during your exam, including anything posted on walls or elsewhere in your work area.

3.Make sure to clear your workspace and put away all personal items.

4.Your proctor will ask you to scan your room/work area with your webcam/laptop to check for any security risks.

5.Be sure your workspace is free of books, paper, and general clutter.

6.It’s recommended you cover dressers, bookshelves, and any other large electronic equipment or furnishings that is in your workspace.

Be aware: Your exam will be terminated, and results invalidated if any other person walks into your work area/room during the exam.

Things to know before taking the remote testing exam

A. Before you schedule your appointment, please read the ProProctor User Guide. Full directions and rules for live remote proctoring will be found there: https://www.prometric.com/proproctorcandidate

Before applying to take the exam remotely, you are advised to run the System Readiness Check. The results will help you to determine if your system meets the minimum technology requirements and if your operating system is compatible to install and run the ProProctor application. The system check can be conducted at any time at https://rpcandidate.prometric.com/Home/SystemCheck

What are the test requirements for a home or office setting?

Your remote testing environment must meet the following requirements during the check-in process with a Prometric Readiness Agent:

1.The testing location must be indoors (walled), well lit, free from background noise and disruptions.

2. No third party may be present in the room or enter the room for the duration of the exam. If this occurs, the Proctor will terminate your exam and/or invalidate your results.

3. Your workstation and surrounding area must be free of pens, paper, electronic devices, etc.

4. No content that could potentially provide an unfair advantage during your exam, including that posted on walls or within your immediate area, should be present during your exam session.

5. Regulations allow two tissues at the workstation, but the Proctor will inspect the tissues prior to the start of the exam.

What should you expect on test day? What is the remote candidate check-in process?

I. During the check-in process the following self-service steps will occur:

·        The ProPoctor system will prompt you to capture your image.

·        The system will prompt you to capture an image of your government-issued ID.

·        The system will prompt you to read a checklist to ensure the following is in place before meeting with a readiness agent

·        Clean workspace

·        Environment suitable for testing

·         Environment, clothing, and devices are compliant with security requirements

II. You will meet the Prometric exam proctor who will guide you through three security checks before launching your exam:

1. ID Verification -Your proctor will confirm your name, address, and exam details with you via video chat.

2. 360˚ Environmental Check-Your exam proctor will ask you to provide a 360° view of your environment using your webcam and also will ask you to scan your work surface using your webcam.

It is strongly recommended having a medium-to- large mirror during your environmental check. During this step, the proctor will ask to inspect things such as bookshelves, wall hangings, electronic devices such as televisions. (*It is recommended to have a large bedsheet or linen available if asked to cover any area of clutter*)

IMPORTANT: Do not have your laptop connected to a docking station anytime during the setup of your exam. This can cause connectivity issues. Make sure to clear your workspace and put away all personal items.

3. Candidate Person Check- The proctor will ask you to stand up to do a scan of your person. This scan will include – but is not limited to – conducting a sleeve, pocket and glasses check. Additionally, you will be asked to turn all pockets inside out. Remove large jewellery items from your person prior to and throughout the duration of the exam.

IMPORTANT: In order to expedite the check-in process, please remember to empty your pockets prior to the visual check.Prometric’s “What to Expect” video provides a summary of the information as does  https://www.prometric.com/proproctorcandidate.

What to do in case you experience a disruption to the exam due to internet connectivity?

If you are still connected to the internet, the live Proctor will attempt to reach you via chat or audio to troubleshoot the problem. Once connectivity is re-established, you will follow the candidate check-in procedures for starting the exam.

In case you get disconnected from the internet, do the following:

1.Wait for 3-4 minutes post disconnection.

2.Reboot your desktop / laptop.

3. Run the system check and ensure all the checks pass.

4.Re-launch your exam using the “Launch exam” button on the top. You must go through the whole check-in process again, however your exam would start from the point where it was disconnected. Lost time cannot be recovered.

5. If connectivity cannot be re-established due to an unstable or lost internet connection, the exam will be terminated. Candidates can report the issue to Prometric. Upon review and approval, candidates may receive one opportunity to retake the test again remotely or at a test centre (based on appointment availability).

Having a stable internet connection

1.Identify the place in the house where Wi-Fi is strongest and test there. It is recommended to use direct hardwired internet connection instead of Wi-Fi.

2.Do not have other family members using up internet bandwidth with Netflix, social media, etc.

Will the Proctor be visible on computer during the exam?

The live Prometric Proctor will monitor the candidate throughout the examination, but the candidate will be unable to see the Proctor during the exam. However, the Proctor can be contacted at any time via chat. When necessary, the Proctor can also contact the candidate by chat or audio.

Can one use a tablet, notebook, or smartphone to take the remote proctored exam?

No, candidates must use a computer to complete the exam via ProProctor. Hybrid tablet/laptop devices such as the Microsoft Surface are not compatible with the ProProctor application.

What is allowed and not allowed in my testing area?

A. Unauthorized personal items may not be accessible while testing. Such items include, but are not limited to outerwear, jewelry, hats, food, drinks, purses, bags or briefcases, notebooks, watches, cell phones, electronic devices, or wearable technology.

B. Test at home policies prohibit eating, drinking, smoking, and chewing gum during the exam. Proctors also restrict candidates from taking written notes or using published materials and other testing aids during the exam. A virtual whiteboard is available for taking notes. No physical scratch paper, pens, and pencils are permitted for note-taking.

C. Candidates must hang light clothing items they remove for comfort such as sweaters, suit jackets, scarves, etc., on their chair. They must not place the light clothing in laps or on the workstation desktop. Proctors restrict candidates from maintaining outerwear such as heavy coats, parkas, raincoats, etc., in the immediate testing area.

D. Policies prohibit candidates from changing location while testing, turning off lighting or audio, or speaking to or receiving aid from other individuals.

Can one take breaks during the exam?

Yes, due to the length of the US CMA exam, you are allowed to have one optional scheduled 20-minute break between section one (1) and section two (2) of your exam. Candidates are able to take unscheduled breaks at any time during the exam session. Please note that the exam clock continues to run during the unscheduled break.

To begin your break, you must notify the Proctor before leaving the view of the camera. Failure to notify the Proctor prior to taking a break will result in termination of your exam session. When you return from break you must perform the same security check-in routine administered at the start of your exam.

IMPORTANT: The security check in routine takes about 10-15 minutes!

● Note that the internet connection in some nations and portions within countries may not be smooth enough to perform the exam remotely. Local technology and firewall problems may make it riskier to test using a remote proctor. You are credible for assuring that you meet the technical requirements and testing your internet connection.

● A tablet or smartphone is not friendly with the ProProctor outlet.

Remote Testing for US CMA Exam FAQs – IMA

Remote proctoring is an exam delivery method administered by Prometric, ICMA’s test administration partner, using its ProProctor™ remote assessment platform.

Remote proctoring provides you with the option of taking the English language US CMA exam and the CSCA exam at a location other than a Prometric Test Center. This option is available if your residence is in a country eligible for the service and your chosen testing environment and systems meet Prometric requirements.

For more detailed information, including a video on what to expect with remote testing, visit ProProctor Candidate Information.

1. Is the remote proctored testing option offered worldwide?

Remote proctoring is available globally, except in the Crimea part of Ukraine, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Cuba. In China, remote proctoring is available for the CSCA and the English language US CMA exam only, as the Chinese language CMA exam is a paper-based test.

Note: In some countries and some areas within countries, internet connection may not be stable enough to administer the exam remotely. Local technological and firewall issues may create a greater risk of not being able to test via remote proctor. It is your responsibility to ensure you meet the technical requirements and to test your internet connection.

2.What is the availability of remote proctoring?

Remote proctoring is available 24/7; however, keep in mind that the day and time you select may not be available. If you are told your day/time is not available, simply select a different time frame.

3. What are the system requirements for remote testing?

Visit Prometric’s ProUserGuide to see the system requirements for remote testing: https://www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/ProProctor/PrometricProUserGuide.pdf.

4. Can I use a tablet or smartphone to take my remote proctored exam?

No, the ProProctor platform is not compatible with a tablet or smartphone.

5. What are the testing location requirements for remote proctored testing?

To comply with the security procedures, there are various requirements for your testing environment: Your selected testing location must be indoors (walled), well-lit, with a closed door and free from background noise and disruptions. The entrance to the room must be in full view of the camera. Your workstation and surrounding area (including the walls) must be free of materials (i.e., pictures, office supplies, electronic devices, etc.).

6.Can I take my remote proctored exam at my place of work using my work computer?

No, you should not be taking your remote proctored exam at your place of work.

7.Can I use my work computer for testing from home?

ICMA does not recommend this, because corporate firewalls that many organizations have in place could prevent successful test delivery. If you choose to test from home using your work computer, ICMA strongly recommends you involve your IT team to resolve any issues, including potential firewall issues, long before test day.

8.What about turning off pop-up blockers? Do I need to do this before testing?

Yes. Prior to launching the exam, you must turn off web browser pop-up blockers to ensure a successful launch and the smooth administration of the exam.

9.How do I know if my computer system meets Prometric’s remote proctoring requirements?

You can confirm your system’s compatibility by going to https://rpcandidate.prometric.com/ and completing the system check step.

10.How do I sign up to test via remote proctoring?

Once you register for an exam part and receive your Authorization Letter, you may schedule your exam appointment. To schedule online, go to www.prometric.com/icma, scroll down, and select the “Schedule Your Remotely Proctored Exam” option.

11.I already signed up to test at a test center but would like to change to remote proctoring. How do I do that?

To change your appointment to remote proctoring, you will need to cancel your existing appointment first. Go to www.prometric.com/icma and click on the “Reschedule/Cancel” option under the “Actions” panel, then click on the “Schedule” option in “Remotely Proctored Exam” to schedule. Note: A rescheduling fee may apply.

12.How will I receive my exam results after I test?

Exam results will be emailed and posted to your online profile approximately six weeks from the end of the month in which you tested for the US CMA exam and approximately eight weeks for the CSCA exam.

13.What should I expect from the security check-in process?

Visit Prometric’s ProUserGuide to see what to expect from the security check-in process: https://www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/ProProctor/PrometricProUserGuide.pdf.

14.Does the security check-in time affect the time I have to take the test?

You are expected to launch the exam 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to go through the Prometric security check-in process. However, delays do occur. If this should happen, the extended time spent during the initial security check-in will not affect your exam time, and you will be provided with the full testing time. Note: If you take a break, the time counter will continue to run while you are being checked back in.

15.Is a break allowed at some point during the exam?

Yes, you are allowed one 10-minute optional, unscheduled break at any time during the exam session. If you wish to take a break, you must notify the proctor before leaving the view of the camera.

Failure to inform the proctor prior to taking a break, or failure to return on time from the break, will result in the termination of your exam session. Upon your return from the break, a full security scan will be conducted before the exam session is resumed. However, please note that the exam clock will continue to run during the time interval between when your break begins and when your session re-starts.

16.Can I take more than one break?

No, only one break is permitted.

No. Eating, drinking, smoking, and chewing gum are prohibited during the exam.

20.Since I am not allowed to have my mobile phone in the area when I’m testing, what if I run into technical difficulties or unexpected circumstances during my remote proctored exam session and need to connect to a proctor?

Mobile phones are not permitted in the testing area but should be close by in another room. In the case of internet or power loss, you should go to the room where your mobile phone is located and connect with the proctor. If using a smartphone, go to https://rpcandidate.prometric.com/ and click on “Contact Support,” then follow the prompts.

21. Is remote proctored testing a replacement for the in-person testing format?

No, remote proctored exam testing is an additional testing option and not a replacement of in-person testing. Both are available alternatives.

22.Is there an additional fee to take a remote proctored exam?

No. At this time, there is not an additional fee to take an exam via remote proctoring.

23.Can I whisper or read the questions out loud?

No. For security reasons, examinees are not permitted to read out loud or whisper exam questions/answers.

24.Can I use scratch paper when taking a remote proctored exam?

Yes. You are allowed to have four sheets of white plain scratch paper on your desk during testing. You must show the front and back of each sheet of paper to the proctor to ensure that there is no writing on the paper. At the end of the test session, you must show the front and back of each sheet of paper to the proctor and rip the scratch paper up into small pieces in front of the camera.

25.What is Prometric’s data privacy protection policy specifically as it relates to the duration of storing identifying documentation such as my government-issued photo ID?

Prometric retains examinees’ test-related documentation for 30 days. After that time, the information is removed from its system. You will be asked to acknowledge and consent to this as part of the privacy policy review.

26.What if I really want to talk to someone at Prometric for scheduling/rescheduling? Can I call them?

Yes. However, please be advised that the quickest way to get resolution is to fill out an online request form at https://www.prometric.com/contact-us. You can also contact ProProctor technical support at (800) 226-7958.

27.What do I do if there is an unexpected power or internet disruption during my remote proctored exam session?

If you experience a power or internet disruption during your remote proctored exam session, the exam will pause after the connection is lost. At that point, you should try to reconnect to the exam by first exiting out of the window; a blank screen with an “X” will appear.

Next, close the window, reopen the browser, and reconnect to the test driver. If successful, the exam and the timer will resume where you left off. You have up to 20 minutes before Prometric’s exam-disruption time allowance runs out.

In the event you are unable to reconnect in time, your exam will be terminated, and you will need to reschedule. Contact Prometric Help Support via chat once your internet is back up or leave the testing room to use your smartphone. To contact Help Support using a mobile phone without Internet, see the “How to Contact an Agent.”

Repeat disconnections are an indication of an unstable internet. In this situation, ICMA will allow examinees up to three relaunches of the exam with up to 20 minutes of overall interruption time.

Incidents that extend beyond either of these circumstances will result in the termination of the exam. If this happens, you can contact Prometric via chat to report the issue. Upon review and approval, you may receive a second opportunity to test. However, you will be required to test at an in-person test centre location.
